Why I'm building Step Step

Every evening after dinner, my wife and I head out for a walk. It’s our ritual to decompress, talk about our day, and work toward a consistent goal of 8,000 steps.

When I went looking for a simple step tracker to keep us accountable, I was disappointed. Almost every pedometer on the App Store was cluttered, complicated, or ruined by intrusive full-screen ads that popped up right when you were trying to enjoy your progress.

So I built the one I wanted to use.

What Step Step is

A beautiful, privacy-first step tracker and workout calendar for iPhone:

  • A year heat map of every walk, run and workout
  • Adaptive streaks that bend to your life
  • Workout insight with heart-rate zones and splits
  • A smooth weight trend line that sees through the daily noise
  • An on-device recorder for walks, runs, hikes and rides — no Apple Watch required

The promises

  • No ads. Ever. Your fitness journey should be a calm, reflective space.
  • 100% on-device. No backend, no accounts, no analytics SDKs. Your health data never leaves your iPhone.
  • Free for everyday use. An optional upgrade unlocks deeper history and advanced tools — but you never need it to track your steps.

This blog is where I’ll share updates, new features and the occasional note from behind the scenes. Thanks for being here early.

Let’s keep walking toward the moon, one step at a time. 🌖
